Solution-focused Brief therapy (SFBT) is a form of psychotherapy that places far more importance on discussing solutions than problems. This positive psychology course explains how SFBT delves into an individual's current resources and future hopes to help them use their strengths to achieve their goals.
We first introduce you to the three foundational principles of SFBT. We examine the Diamond Model, which is based on these principles and is used to achieve progress relatively quickly. We identify the 'Miracle question' and explain how it is used to set goals and promote positive change. The course teaches you how exception and scaling questions help clients find solutions to their problems and evaluate their progress. We show you how to use SFBT to help children, adolescents and families from different cultural backgrounds and in groups to identify and amplify their strengths and solve problems.
The course then demonstrates how to measure the effectiveness of your therapy and help clients with occasional failure in follow-up sessions. We also teach you how to approach ethical dilemmas and challenges while prioritising your clients' best interests and establishing a trustworthy relationship.
